Well, yeah, but why on earth wouldn't you include them? True, they're 
not complete (though the ones in HB aren't far off being complete), but 
they at least tell you what the basic magic is - why would they even be 
there if that weren't so?

They're good enough to be a very clear definition of the cult magic, IMO 
- especially the HB ones. The attitude that I've seen from some HQ fans 
(and I'm not necessarily picking on Donald, here, because it's cropped 
up in other contexts) that you're not supposed to use the stuff that's 
been written down in black-and-white is one I find baffling. That you 
don't *have* to use it, sure - YGWV. But that you're not supposed to 
trust it at all? Weird.

I accept sometimes you have to make changes, and I can see why this 
particular one was made. But it seems rather odd to claim that it's not 
a meaningful contradiction at all.
