I like to see a mixture of both approaches, myself. I liked ILH-2, and 
HoM is kind of a cross between that and ILH-1. It does not have stats, 
because its not (IMO) the place for them. But I suspect many GMs do 
indeed want a more concrete grip on things, and there are other books 
for which that would be suitable. They'd be less useful to some other 
players (such as Graham) as a result, but you can't please everyone. 
And, hopefully, they'd still have some stuff of use. If they happen, 
which we don't know yet.
