It worked fine for me too until this three(4?5?)-world
model came along, and any use of "soul" got queries as
to what about the other worlds (sigh).

Sounds good to me, especially the latter (or we'd get
into arguments about immortality).
Simon Hibbs suggested "As a generic term perhaps we
could say they are all kinds of Life Force." And that
would do me, too.
Any votes for a generic phrase that won't get us all
confused?
