In "My Varied Glorantha" these string maps are sequences of string
figures taught by elders.

I only wish I was competent enough in string figures to actually
demonstrate them in a game. (probable skill at present = 18)

For more on string figures start with the International String Figure
association:
http://www.isfa.org/

They have an excellent list of Arctic Sting Figures here:
http://www.isfa.org/arctic/jenness.htm

With a little imagination Praxian Knot Writing becomes a vibrant
tradition in its own right as well as an aid to oral tradition; a method
of navigation; and also an analogy and guide to Arachne Solara's web.

(Catching up with stuff after a long time with other priorities so sorry
about the time lag.)
