Here's a good link for stuff on early warships

The seaworthiness of these vessels, and their usability on the Gloranthan
high seas is an interesting question. We don't really know what sort of
weather the Neliomi sea has. I'm guessing that crossing the ocean
(Genertela - Pamaltela) is and has always been rather hazardous, and is
usually undertaken when the winds are favourable and mild. Only in certain
seasons (or parts thereof) of the year.

But on the other hand, let's remember that where our world had technology,
Glorantha has magic. The favour of gods can make all the difference, as
can air elementals bound to your sail (reallly helps you sail with a
square rigged ship if you can influense the wind), or water elementals /
sea creatures pushing your ship.

As I understand it the largest factor in the Wartagi dominance of the seas
was not their superior technology, but their command of- and relations
with various powerful sea creatures.

Again, I have no problem with Trireme being the highest technology for
Glorantha sailing,
