I'd suggest Yina's magic relates to a heroquest Theya performed then.
Whatever it should have a bit of a story behind why she has it and
I'd go with Rob in feeling that the player should take the lead in
telling it.

That's one approach, what is practically useful. Another is to find 
something which is fun and shows a different side to the character.
Say "Dazzle with light" which is going to be particularly useful
against trolls who are Gavren's particular enemy.
