That is because, IMHO, it comes from the spirits/godlings/essences that are in
the mundane world.

I think that that is true for the gods etc that live in their respective
otherworlds.

I get the impression that there are plenty of gods/spirits/essences that live
in the mundane world and thus can give common magic.  This doesn't require all
the rituals and community support to break through the otherworld barriers.

You need to find an 'entity' as a source for the magic and persuade the entity
to share it's magic with you.
