In my game, the heroes are working peripherally to the people who  
will complete this quest. (They don't really know this.)

Their big enemies are the Thanatari of the Tunneled Hills, though in  
some ways they don't know THAT yet.

I think that Chsa Glut's minions are many decades into their mythic  
plan to be present at the moment that Genert reappears, so they can  
either consume His mind or take his head. But they don't know that  
the reassembly of the Skin will actually cause the rebirth of the  
Great Hyena, and when they show up for Genert they will be unprepared  
for the Hyena.

So in a powerful dramatic moment to come, the heroes battle the  
sudden appearance of fully magically prepared Thanatari, are  
overwhelmed (maybe) they rush to the center of the ceremony, kill a  
few officiants just as not Genert but the Great Hyena manifests.

The battling forces pause for a moment--then the Hyena vomits out the  
body of Genert.

Then the Hyena eats all the Thanatari.
