Replace 'Death' with 'Humakt' and we have Eurmal finding Humakt in the
underworld and conning him into killing loads of people, which is the other
form of this myth. They're the same myth, interpreted very slightly
differently.
The story of Humakt delving into the deepest darkness and discovering the
secret power of Death is one of self-discovery. He discovered the power
within himself.
