On the way back to civilization, Nose Ring of the Lunar Coders chews one of 
his own fingers off to resist the urge to attune a piece of Truestone he 
recovered, so it can be handed over to the Lunar authorities (see 
"Strangers in Prax").

 From what Greg says, it sounds like you can actually handle Truestone, but 
must resist a complusive urge to attune it if you do.
